Nearly two years since breaking ground just north of LAX, construction continues to chug along for Lulu's Place, a $170-million athletic and education complex which is being built with philanthropic money.

Located on  34 acres of long-vacant land on the north side of Westchester Parkway, the project will include a 25,000-square-foot learning lab sponsored by Tiger Woods' TGR Foundation, tennis courts, soccer fields, playground areas, walking paths, and a dog park. The facilities will be made available to the general public, including offerings such as academic, athletic, and wellness programs to be offered at free or low-cost.

A recent topping off ceremony marked the addition of the final beam across the property's 13,000-square-foot Welcome Center, which is one of the centerpieces to the complex, which is named in honor of the late Carol "Lulu" Kimmelman, a former LAUSD teacher and a member of the USC women's tennis team that won the 1983 national championship. The Welcome Center will serve as the main access point to 24 tennis courts and eight multi-use courts which are included in the project.

"Watching my wife Carol’s dream come to life on this campus and seeing our family's vision take shape has been extraordinary," said Lulu's Place founder and chairman Doug Kimmelman in a news release. "This campus will serve as a gateway to opportunity—a place where young people will discover new passions, build confidence, and begin their journeys towards a brighter future. We look forward to welcoming the community through these doors."

In addition to construction, development, and design services from DPR Construction, Lincoln Property Co., and Rios respectively, the project is supported by organizations including the United States Tennis Association, the USTA Foundation, Tiger Woods' TGR Foundation, the Karsh Family Foundation, Cedars-Sinai, Providence, the Ballmer Group, Alfred E. Mann Charities, the Rose Hills Foundation, the Hirsch Family Foundation, the Joseph Drown Foundation, the LA84 Foundation, and the Walt Disney Company. An additional $2.5 million in financial support was recently announced from the Los Angeles Chargers Impact Fund.

Completion is expected in mid-2027.
