The project, called Āto, is rising from the former site of a surface parking lot at 118 S. Astronaut Ellison S Onizuka Street.  Approved plans call for a total of 77 one- and two-bedroom condominiums, perched above ground-floor retail space and a subterranean parking garage.

Bucilla Group Architecture designed the steel-frame structure, which will stand approximately 120 feet in height.  A rooftop amenity deck will cap the nine-story structure, providing a swimming pool, a gym, and a barbeque area for use by residents.

The mixed-use development is on pace to open in mid-2021.

The project is the latest recent series of multifamily residential developments to arrive in Little Tokyo, the bulk of which are located along 2nd Street between San Pedro and Main Streets.

ETCO Homes, the developer behind the project, is also in the midst of construction at four different condominium developments in the Beverly Grove neighborhood.
