Los Angeles-based Canfield Development has broken ground on a new multifamily residential complex in the Mid-Wilshire area.

Located just west of the intersection of Pico Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue, the project is replacing four single-family homes at 1323-1339 S. Orange Grove Avenue.  Plans call for a five-story, 56-foot tall building that will feature 61 two- and three-bedroom condominiums - including five to be set aside for very low-income households - with amenities and two levels of basement parking for 122 vehicles.

DE Architects designed the low-rise structure in the Spanish Colonial Revival style.  The building will feature four frames of wood-frame construction above a concrete podium, and an exterior of white stucco.

The Orange Grove development is rising less than a half-mile east of the site of a former Orange Julius stand on Pico Boulevard, where work recently began for a Googie-inspired apartment building.

Canfield's portfolio includes numerous mixed-use and multifamily residential buildings in the Los Angeles area, including a $22-million project nearing completion in Koreatown and a proposed 73-unit development near USC.
