The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has voted to approve the issuance of approximately $23 million in multifamily housing revenue bonds for the construction of two veterans affordable housing projects.

The first project, slated for a property at 3650 Center Avenue in El Monte, is being developed by the Cesar Chavez Foundation.  Plans call for the construction of a multi-story structure featuring 28 one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments, reserved for homeless veterans making 30 percent of less than the area median income.

The Board of Supervisors has approved $8 million in bond financing for the project, which is called the El Monte Metro Apartments due to its location just south of the El Monte Metrolink commuter rail station.

Construction of the new housing would require relocating an existing bus stop to the opposite side of Center Street.

The second project, which is being developed by East L.A. Community Corporation, is slated for a property located at 4101-4117 Whittier Boulevard in unincorporated East Los Angeles.

ELACC has been approved for up to $15-million in bond financing for the project, which would replace a small commercial building with a two-story edifice containing 34 studio, one-, and two-bedroom units of supportive housing serving veterans, homeless persons, and other special needs populations.

The project is located a two blocks west of the intersection of Whittier Boulevard and Downey Road, where Meta Housing Corp. is developing two similar supportive housing communities.
