Earlier today, Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia presented conceptual plans for a new Cal State Long Beach student village in the heart of the city's downtown.
“Long Beach is quickly becoming a model city for strategic development that supports a more livable, innovative and sustainable future,” said Garcia. “The proposed CSULB student village is a home run for the City and the university. Student and faculty housing will activate our Downtown Core with new economic opportunities and academic partnerships.”
The proposed development is described as a "student living-learning community," offering residences, a location fo the University Art Museum, and a new innovation center with classrooms and labs. Longbeachize reports that the project, which would be located in the mixed-use district known as "the Streets," would create 1,000 student dormitories.
Garcia's presentation went on to highlight significant building efforts in Downtown Long Beach, including 5,000 residential units in various stages of development and over $500 million invested into affordable housing over the past decade.
