At the southeast corner of Florence and La Brea Avenues in Inglewood, construction has entered the home stretch for Astra, a mixed-use apartment complex from developer Thomas Safran & Associates.

The project, which sits south across the street from the Crenshaw/LAX (K) Line's future Downtown Inglewood stop, consists of a six-story building which will contain 242 market-rate apartments above 48,000 square feet of ground-floor retail and a 438-car garage. Each of those units will include a stackable washer-dryer set, kitchen appliances, and balconies, per a project website

According to the website of general contractor Milender White, Astra will include apartments ranging from 667 and 1,325 square feet in size, with restaurants, shops, and a grocery store located at street level.

Withee Malcolm is designing the contemporary apartment complex, formerly known as Market Gateway, which will feature a roof deck, a courtyard, a community room, and a fitness center among other amenities.

The project website lists the debut date for Astra as Fall 2022.

The development site is located across Market Street from a proposed station on Inglewood's automated people mover system, which could be accompanied by a 600,000-square-foot commercial development under current plans. Likewise, crews recently cleared a pair of commercial buildings located west across Florence Avenue, where a similar mixed-use apartment complex has been approved.
