In the latest example of increased investment in East Hollywood, yet another multi-family residential development has entered the pipeline near the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Western Avenue.
Earlier this month, the locally-based Harridge Development Group filed plans with the City of Los Angeles to construct a new residential-retail complex on a property at 1350 North Western Avenue. A case filing from the Department of City Planning notes that the project would consist of two seven-story buildings, offering a combined total of 253 residential units and 4,060 square feet of ground-floor commercial uses.
The approximately 3.5-acre site formerly housed a film processing facility owned by Deluxe Laboratories, an entertainment services firm. In the wake of the motion picture industry's increased emphasis on digitial distribution, the Burbank-based company opted to shutter its longtime Hollywood lab in 2014, thereby making the property available redevelopment.
The ultimate fate of the existing facility, built incrementally between 1928 and 2010, remains uncertain. Several buildings along the property's Western Avenue frontage have already been demolished.
The proposed development at 1350 Western is the second major residential-retail complex to emerge in East Hollywood during the past several weeks, following a similar project planned one block north on Sunset Boulevard.
