Demolition is underway for a series of low-rise structures at 1311 N. Cahuenga Boulevard, the first step towards a $110-million mixed-use development known as the Rise Hollywood.

The joint venture between Cal-Coast Development and Rescore calls for a seven-story building featuring 369 apartments - including 12 live/work units, 30 micro units and 20 units of moderate income housing - above 2,500 square feet of street-fronting commercial space.  Proposed accessory uses in the development include an underground parking structure, a public plaza, outdoor decks and a fitness center.

Renderings of the residential-retail complex - which is designed by Nadel Architects - portay a contemporary mid-rise building clad with painted plaster, glass and metal.  Several pedestrian passageways would cut through the two acre site, mitigating its unwieldy dimensions.

Just east of the project site, developer Kilroy Realty is planning a similar project consisting of offices, retail space and a high-rise apartment building.
