A community meeting on September 22 provided new details on plans for new Long Beach City College housing in North Long Beach.

The project, slated for a vacant lot at the intersection of 59th Street and Atlantic Avenue, will rise next door to the Michell Obama Neighborhood Library. Plans call for the construction of a four-story housing development including 22 individual units, as well as two classrooms in a separate structure.

According to a project website, construction is projected to commence in December 2027 and conclude by Fall 2029.

Funding sources for the project include Measure LB and AC. Long Beach City College officials have also secured $1 million in federal funding for the proposed development, which was reported in 2024 to have a $32 million budget.

The North Long Beach project is more modest in scale than what LBCC is currently building on its Liberal Arts Campus - a $127-million housing complex with space for more than 400 student beds.

The North Long Beach site also sits opposite Atlantic Avenue from Rhythm, a new housing development recently built by KB Home.
