A surface parking lot just east of the A Line's Anaheim Street Station in Downtown Long Beach has made way for multifamily housing.

South Park Group, a Los Angeles-based real estate firm, is now building a seven-story, 97-unit apartment building at 1112 Locust Avenue.  Plans call for a mix of studio, one-, and two-bedroom floor plans - averaging 773 square feet in size - above a parking garage for 122 vehicles.

Plus Architects is designing the project, which sits one block east of Long Beach Boulevard.  The contemporary podium-type building will include five levels of wood-frame construction, incorporating amenities such as a courtyard and a swimming pool.

The project is one of a handful of new mixed-use and multifamily residential buildings in development near Anaheim Street Station, which sits at the northern edge of Downtown Long Beach.  A 160-unit affordable housing complex called The Beacon opened at Anaheim and Long Beach Boulevard in 2019, and a market-rate project with 120 apartments and retail space is slated to rise from a now-empty site a block south.
