The developers looking to revive the historic Garland building in Downtown's Historic Core have secured $7.8 million in financing for the project.
San Francisco-based Presidio Bay and Los Angeles-based 740 South Broadway have been in the process of renovating the 11-story Beaux Arts landmark at 740 S. Broadway for more than a year now. At completion, the 106-year-old building will contain more than 50,000 square feet of office space and 3,200 square feet of retail. The 28,000-square-foot Globe Theatre at its ground level remains in operation and will continue to function as an entertainment venue.
The financing for energy, water, and other infrastructure improvements was provided by the Bay Area firm CleanFund.
City records indicate that the renovation of the Garland is being designed by Downtown-based architecture firm Omgivning, which specializes in historic restoration projects.
Construction at The Garland is expected to be completed by December 2019.
Just a block south at 8th Street and Broadway, work is underway for the restoration of the Tower Theatre, which is being converted into an Apple store.
