New hotels are rising left-and-right throughout Southern California, but none are quite like the dual-branded Marriott that is now taking shape near SpaceX headquarters in Hawthorne.

The project, located near the intersection of El Segundo and Hawthorne Boulevards, is being built assembly-line style with prefabricated hotel rooms shipping from Boise, Idaho.  Earlier this month, crews from Guerdon Modular Buildings set up a temporary crane to begin stacking the first half of the 198 modular units that will eventually comprise a 221-room Marriott Courtyard and a 133-room TownePlace Suites.

The prefabricated rooms come outfitted with furniture, carpeting, cabinets, and artwork, and are connected to electricity, plumbing and other utilities on-site.

The project, which is being developed by Mogul Capital, is scheduled to open in late summer 2018.Since opening its first modular hotel in Sacramento County in 2016, Marriott has announced plans for more than 50 hotels using this type of construction.  The Hawthorne project is the largest prefabricated development to date.
