A vacant lot overlooking Echo Park is set for redevelopment with a multifamily residential building, according to an application filed earlier this month with the Los Angeles Department of City Planning.
The project at 820 N. Laguna Avenue, proposed by Chalon Group, LLC, calls for the construction of a five-story building featuring 25 one-bedroom apartments without on-site parking. Plans also show a series of recreation rooms within the building that could be converted into multifamily accessory dwelling units after construction.
Plans call for three units of extremely low-income housing, which would make the project eligible for density bonus incentives to permit a larger building than otherwise allowed at this location.
Carpira Design Group is designing the project, which is shown in plans with a Mediterranean-style exterior.
The project site is located within the Angelino Heights Historic Preservation Overlay Zone, and requires a certificate of compatibility for the historic district.
