Yet another mid-century office building near LAX is going hotel.

The project, submitted yesterday to the Los Angeles Department of City Planning, would transform the eight-story office building at 9800 S. Sepulveda Boulevard into a 178-room hotel.

Property records list the 1960s building's owner as a Santa Monica-based entity called LAX Enterprise LP.

Due to a soft office market near the airport, a number of mid-rise office buildings on nearby Century Boulevard have recently transformed into hotels.  A dual-branded Hilton now occupies a 12-story building at 6151 Century, while a 272-room Hyatt is currently under construction in a 13-story building at 5959 Century.

The new hotels come in the midst of a $12-billion capital improvements program at LAX, highlighted by the construction of a new automated people mover which will connect to Metro's Crenshaw/LAX Line.
