Construction is underway for a new affordable housing complex near the intersection of Santa Monica Boulevard and Highland Avenue in Hollywood.

The project from Seachange Partners, now taking shape at 1248 N. Cherokee Avenue, calls for the construction of a five-story building featuring 45 one- and two-bedrooms without on-site parking.

All of the apartments, save for a mandatory manager's unit, are to be reserved for low- and moderate-income renters, making the project eligible for density bonus incentives to permit a larger structure than otherwise allowed by zoning rules.

Aaron Brumer & Associates is designing the project, which is depicted in a rendering as a contemporary low-rise building.

Seachange is developing similar apartment complexes in the Palms and Sawtelle communities.
