More than four decades after the heirs of Howard Hughes decided to redevelop more than 1,000 acres of land below the Westchester Bluffs, the master-planned Playa Vista community is entering the home stretch.
Last month, homebuilder Taylor Morrison announced Encore, the final new-home development in Playa Vista. Plans call for 14, multi-story single-family homes, each featuring four or five bedrooms and two-car garages. Sales prices start at $3.1 million.
The property is located at 12666 W. Millennium Drive.
The project joins a handful of other for-sale housing developments in Playa Vista, including Jewel, The Collection, and Seabluff.
In its prior incarnation, Playa Vista was a private airfield and manufacturing facility for Hughes Aircraft, which built the iconic Spruce Goose in a cavernous hangar located just north of present-day Jefferson Boulevard.
Today, the Spruce Goose Hangar is home to the Los Angeles area offices of Google, a sign of the new industries that dominate the neighborhood today: entertainment and technology. Besides Google, companies such as Electronic Arts, Facebook, Microsoft, and IMAX Corporation also have offices in Playa Vista.
