In Carson, the first buildings of a large multifamily residential development are now rising just west of the I-405 Freeway.

Evolve South Bay, which is being developed by MBK Rental Living, will span a narrow 11.8-acre site at the northeast corner of Main Street and Del Amo Boulevard.  Plans call for the construction of multiple four-story structures containing 300 rental apartments and parking.

Summa Architecture is designing the stucco-clad project, which will also include a perimeter walking path and amenities such as a swimming pool, a fitness center, and a dog park.

The project is the first residential component of a 300-acre complex called The Boulevards at South Bay, which will include a 465,000-square-foot outlet mall across Del Amo Boulevard - on a former landfill which was once considered as a potential stadium site for the NFL's Raiders and Chargers.

The project is one of a handful of large multifamily residential projects under construction in Carson, highlighted by Union South Bay, which will feature 357 apartments and retail space at the intersection of Carson Street and Avalon Boulevard.

An even larger development now under consideration could bring over 1,000 apartments to 20 acres of land just south of the under-construction outlet mall.
