During a final rush of submissions in advance of the Measure S vote, developer Mitsui Fudosan America filed plans with the City of Los Angeles to construct a residential tower at 8th and Hope Streets.
A rendering of the proposed mixed-use building, which is being designed by architecture firm Johnson Fain, portrays a sleek 40-story, 467-foot tower with 409 apartments sitting above a retail and parking podium. The above-grade garage levels would be wrapped in perforated metal panels, and capped by a pool and amenity deck.
Plans call for a mixture of studio, one- and two-bedroom dwellings, served by a total of 433 parking spaces. Much of the garage space would be located underground.
The project is similar in concept to a proposed 42-story tower at 8th and Figueroa Streets, which is also a collaboration between MFA and Johnson Fain.
The development site spans the full block of 8th Street between Hope and Grand Avenue, and joins similar towers nearing completion at Olive and Spring Streets. It also sits directly across from the 700-unit Eighth & Grand apartments, which feature a ground-level Whole Foods Market.
