Work is all but complete for a new stretch of protected bike lanes on Hollywood Boulevard, LADOT announced last week.

The project spans a more than two-mile stretch of Hollywood Boulevard between Hillhurst Avenue to the east and Gower Street to the west. That corridor includes places such as Barnsdall Park, Thai Town, Hollywood/Western Station, and the eastern terminus of the Walk of Fame.

The makeover has restriped Hollywood Boulevard to add a new center left turn lane, while retaining bicycle lanes along the curbside. The bike lanes are protected by parked cars between Lyman Place and Van Ness Avenue, and by plastic delineators between Van Ness and Gower.

These improvements would dovetail with a more ambitious revamp slated for the Hollywood Walk of Fame's, which would add another stretch of bus and bike lanes to the west of Gower Street toward La Brea Avenue.

Transportation officials have also used the project as an opportunity to attempt a fix of the convoluted, six-way intersection of Hollywood Boulevard, Sunset Boulevard, Hillhurst Avenue, Virgil Avenue, and Sunset Drive through measures such as left turn signal phasing, a new crosswalk from Hollywood to Sunset, and restrictions on ingress and egress to Sunset Drive to right turns only.
