In South Los Angeles, the non-profit organization Wellnest is in the midst of construction on a permanent supportive housing complex at the former site of an auto repair garage.
The five-story building, called The Nest on Florence, is rising at the southeast corner of Florence and Towne Avenues. The approximately 41,000-square-foot building will include 50 studio and one-bedroom apartments reserved for transition-age youth at risk of homelessness, as well as a two-bedroom manager's unit.
City records indicate is being designed by architect Edwin Mohabir. Renderings by design architect D33 Design and Planning. A setback above the second floor would be used to provide open space for residents.
The project, which is funded by the County bond initiative Measure H and the City measure Proposition HHH, is scheduled for completion within 18 months.
Elsewhere in the Florence neighborhood, similar supportive housing projects are currently in development at 6901 S. Main Street and 7022 S. Broadway.
