Just south of the I-105 Freeway in Hawthorne, a long-vacant property has yielded a new hotel development.
The new project, a Tru Hotel, is located on a site at 4334 Imperial Highway - a site which is neighbored by a handful of other limited service hotels which serve the LAX passenger market. The new structure will eventually be five stories in height and feature 83 guest rooms above ground-floor parking.
Architectural plans approved by the City of Hawthorne describe the building as featuring an exterior of stone and stucco, with pop outs which are intended to add depth to the design. The finished product is expected to be painted brown and beige, with blue and yellow accents, and a glass entryway for pedestrian access off of Imperial Highway.
City records list the project applicant as 2 La Cienega, Inc. Other members of the project team include engineering firm Cooke & Associates and architect Roberto Lomeli Jr.
The development site is located roughly a half-mile east of Imperial Highway's intersection with Inglewood Avenue, where a mixed-use project consisting of 13 townhomes and a standalone retail building was completed in 2019.
The project would appear to be the first outpost for Hilton's Tru Hotel brand in Los Angeles County. The Tru Hotel chain is intended to offer smaller rooms at lower prices, competing with similar brands such as Comfort Inn.
