The San Gabriel Valley Regional Housing Trust (SGVRHT) has announced nearly $25 million in funding for the construction of for affordable housing developments in the communities of Montebello, San Gabriel, South Pasadena, and Alhambra.
The money, which comes from Measure A, is the largest single award in the trust's six-year existence. The funding will be utilized to create a total of 212 homes. The projects include:
The BLVD project from the Cesar Chavez Foundation (which is addressing the elephant in the room), slated for a site at 501-525 Whittier Boulevard in Montebello, will include 51 units of affordable housing for families and survivors of domestic violence. The project was awarded $10.1 million from the trust.
Practice is designing the project, which follows a sister development recently built on an adjacent site off of Whittier Boulevard.
The SGVRHT has also awarded $7.4 million for the construction of a new senior affordable housing complex at 405 S. Del Mar Avenue in the City of San Gabriel.
A city staff report indicates that Related California is serving as the project's developer.
El Centro Senior
In the City of South Pasadena, plans for a 52-unit senior affordable housing complex at 1503-1507 El Centro Street have secured $4.4 million in funding.
As with its coutnerpart in San Gabriel, city records indicate that project is being developed by Related California.
The fourth and final project to receive finding, the Mariposa development from American Family Housing and National CORE, would rise from a property at 103 North Chapel Avenue in Alhambra. Plans call for a 36-unit affordable housing complex serving both low-income households and those at risk of homelessness.
