Local developer ETCO Homes has broken ground on a new apartment complex in Beverly Grove.

The project, located on an eight-acre site at 411-439 S. Hamel Road, will consist of a four-story edifice featuring 37 residential units.  The new construction replaces five smaller multifamily properties which were built in the 1930s and 1940s.

Kevin Tsai Architecture is designing the new development, which would be divided into two wings surrounding a central, elevated courtyard.  Renderings depict glass balconies along several exterior-facing units.

A timeline for the project has not been announced.

The project site is located not far west of 333 S. La Cienega Boulevard, where developer Rick Caruso has obtained approvals to construct a 16-story apartment tower, and a few blocks east of a Four Seasons-branded condo complex that is now under construction.

Other projects from ETCO Homes currently under construction include a nine-story development in Little Tokyo.
