A staff report to the Board of Recreation and Parks Commissioners reveals new renderings of The Brine, a proposed mixed-use affordable housing development in Lincoln Heights.
Decro Corporation, the non-profit behind the project, is seeking to redevelop two thirds of a city-block at 3000 N. Main Street - just north of L.A. County-USC Medical Center. Their plans call for multiple buildings up to five stories in height, featuring 97 studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments - including 96 affordable units - in addition to medical offices, a clinic, a grocery store, and parking for 124 vehicles.
VIP Community Mental Health Center, Inc. is slated to provide social services for residents, Decro announced last year.
Los Angeles-based architecture firm Togawa Smith Martin is designing the proposed development, which would involve the relocation and restoration of several early 20th century houses, which would be retained on-site.
As of April 2019, Decro had secured approximately $24 million in funding for The Brine through the New Generation Fund and Measure HHH.
Construction was previously anticipated to begin in this year.
The project's name references the longtime owner of the development site, the A 1 Eastern Homemade Pickle Company.
