With a $200,000 grant in hand from the Southern California Association of Governments, the City of Glendale will begin planning a streetcar line that would connect to a variety of San Fernando Valley destinations.

The Los Angeles Times reports that the proposed streetcar would traverse Brand and Glenoaks Boulevards, replicating a former route of the legendary Pacific Electric Railway.  A full buildout of the proposed alignment would run slightly over nine miles.

At the north end, the proposed streetcar would terminate at the Hollywood Burbank Airport, where a new Metrolink station is now under construction.

The southern terminus would be located at the existing Glendale Metrolink Station off of San Fernando Road.  Metro is currently studying how to improve service to this station, as well as others between Burbank and Downtown Los Angeles.
