Another year, another update to the income limits and median household income figures for all of California's 58 counties via the Department of Housing and Community Development.

As with last year (and years prior), the state income limits help to determine applicant eligibility for programs which are based on the level of household income. For our purposes here, their most important role is determining who is eligible for new units of deed-restricted affordable housing.

Here are the 2024 numbers for Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, and Ventura Counties:

Los Angeles County income limits for 2024California Department of Housing and Community Development

Orange County income limits for 2024California Department of Housing and Community Development

Riverside County income limits for 2024California Department of Housing and Community Development

San Bernardino County income limits for 2024California Department of Housing and Community Development

Ventura County income limits for 2024California Department of Housing and Community Development

Unlike last year, which saw a sharp uptick when compared to the figures for 2022, little has changed between 2023 and 2024. In fact, in Los Angeles County, the largest of the five counties considered here, the medianwas unchanged at $98,200 for a four-person household. Likewise, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, and Ventura saw only modest increases.

Of course, those small upticks came after several years of more substantial increases. L.A County's median income for a four-person household was $80,000 in 2020, and roughly $91,000 in 2021.

Increases were also seen in the affluent Bay Area, including Santa Clara County, where the median four person-households now earns $184,300 - up from last year's high mark of $180,000. However, both San Francisco and San Mateo counties now outstrip Santa Clara for the title of the highest median household income in the state, reaching $186,600.

Statewide, the median four-person household income now stands at more than $111,000.
