Just north of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the frame of a new hotel development from local investor Adolfo Suaya is beginning to take shape.

The Whisky Hotel, which broke ground last year at 1717 N. Wilcox Avenue, will consist of a seven-story edifice featuring 134 guest rooms above approximately 3,580 square feet of ground-floor retail space and a 103-car basement garage.

CK Architecture and RVCA are designing the project, which will have a contemporary exterior of brick covered with vines.  Plans also call for open-air deck would on the building's rooftop.

Last year, Suaya announced that Whisky will not only be in the name of the hotel.  The namesake beverage will be featured in tasting events and even in a fountain in the hotel lobby.

As of last year, completion of the more than $35-million development was expected in 2022.

The project joins a handful of new hotel developments planned to the north of the Walk of Fame, including a 10-story inn proposed one block west on Whitley Avenue and an 81-room hotel slated for an adjacent site on Wilcox.

Other nearby projects in development include Onni Group's proposed 14-story office building at Hollywood and Cahuenga Boulevard, as well as the under construction Hollywood Arts Collective to the south.
