Earlier this month, the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) announced its latest round of Homekey+ funding, providing $251.8 million to create over 900 homes across the state.
“Each of these awards represents a pathway to stability and opportunity for so many Californians who have struggled to maintain housing amid rising costs and personal challenges, including our nation’s veterans,” said HCD Director Gustavo Velasquez in a news release. “Modeled on the Governor’s highly successful Homekey program—and made possible by the forward-thinking voters of this state—Homekey+ is laying the foundation for generational impacts and continued reductions in unsheltered homelessness.”
For the Los Angeles area, two projects received funding. Per a news release, they include:
Developer PATH Ventures and the Los Angeles County Development Authority will receive $27 million in Homekey+ funding for the PATH Villas East Los Angeles . Plans call for the construction of a 59-unit development at 5010 E. 3rd Street in unincorporated East Los Angeles to serve chronic homeless residents with behavioral challenges.
Urban Architecture Lab is designing the project, which would be located near the E Line's East Los Angeles Civic Center Station.
The Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles and Finding Hope, Inc. are set to receive $9 million for the acquisition of a newly-built apartment building at 630 N. Oxford Street in East Hollywood. The building - currently consisting of 28 apartments and two manager's units - will add two additional accessory dwelling units as part of the project.
To date, more than $540 million in Homekey+ funding has been awarded to 32 projects in California that will create 1,517 homes.
