With a slew of high-rise buildings rising in both Downtown Los Angeles and Koreatown, it appears that construction cranes may soon spread to the adjacent Westlake neighborhood.
Yesterday, plans were filed with the City of Los Angeles for the construction of a 41-story tower on a parking lot at Wilshire Boulevard and Bonnie Brae Street. The proposed development would feature 478 apartments - including 39 affordable units - as well as a learning and performing arts center.
Plans also call for the conversion of a historic building at 1930 W. Wilshire Boulevard from medical offices into a 220-key hotel. The 13-story structure, built in 1928, once served as the regional headquarters of Crocker National Bank.
The project, located one block east of MacArthur Park, is contingent on several discretionary approvals from the city, including a zone change and a general plan amendment.
Property records list the owner of the approximately 1.5-acre site as a local physician.
Other nearby developments include a market rate apartment building at Wilshire Boulevard and Valencia Street, as well as a proposed affordable housing complex atop Metro's Westlake/MacArthur Park Station.
