At a meeting earlier this month, the Inglewood City Council voted to move forward with eminent domain proceedings for eight properties as part of its revised plan to connect the K Line to SoFi Stadium.

The properties, all located Florence Avenue and Market Street just south of the K Line's Downtown Inglewood Station, will be used for the development of a new transit hub with bus bays, EV charging facilities, and a large parking structure. The hub will connect to the adjacent Metro station with a pedestrian overcrossing of Florence Avenue.

The new Market Street mobility hub is one of four planned in the vicinity of SoFi Stadium. The others would be located on La Brea Avenue to the south of Manchester Avenue, at Hawthorne Boulevard to the north of the C Line and the I-105 Freeway, and on Prairie Avenue to the north of the freeway.

The hubs would serve passengers on two dedicated bus routes feeding into the stadium, one connecting to the C Line at Hawthorne/Lennox Station and the other to the K Line at Downtown Inglewood Station. Plans call for dedicated bus lanes along segments of La Brea Avenue/Hawthorne Boulevard and Arbor Vitae Streets, with mixed-flow operations on other segments of La Brea, Century Boulevard, Prairie Avenue, Crenshaw Boulevard, and other corridors.

Also included in the plan is an initiative to improve the pedestrian connections between SoFi Stadium, Intuit Dome, and the Kia Forum with upgrades to both Market Street and Manchester Boulevard. At the time the project was announced last year, it was expected that the City would provide grants for upgrades to storefronts along market, as well as investment in public realm improvements such as new sidewalks, seating areas, landscaping, and lighting.

According to a project website, construction of the streetscape overhaul, mobility hubs, and bus lanes is to occur between 2026 and 2028, with completion expected before the Summer Olympics. After that point, Inglewood could once again consider its original plan for the corridor - a grade-separated people mover system. Despite attracting well over $1 billion in funding, plans for the monorail-like system fell apart in 2024 in the face of political opposition.
