The Irvine Company is doubling down on plans for new housing in Newport Beach.
The Daily Pilot reports that plans submitted last year by Irvine Co. to Newport Beach planning officials call for replacing 141,000 square feet of offices at 100-190 Newport Center Drive with up to 600 homes. The new construction would consist of five-story, podium-type buildings with two levels of underground parking.
Plans show that MVE + Parnters is designing the project.
Elsewhere, Irvine Co. has submitted plans to demolish a parking structure at 800 San Clemente Drive to permit the construction of 200 additional homes. That complex would be an expansion of the existing Villas of Fashion Island development.
As with the Newport Center Drive project, MVE + Partners is designing the proposed building.
Irvine Co. has also made headlines with plans to build 700 apartments through a combination of adaptive reuse and new construction at a site near John Wayne Airport.
The combined sum of more than 1,500 new homes comes at a time when Newport Beach is obligated to plan for up to 5,000 new dwellings by 2029 by state regulators.
