Ten months since our last check in, construction has entered the home stretch at the Isla Intersections in South L.A.'s Broadway-Manchester neighborhood.

The apartment complex at 283 W. Imperial Highway, a joint venture between Holos Communities and American Family Housing, sits on a triangular-shaped site located just north of the immense 110-105 interchange. The five-story building will feature 53 studio apartments and 900 square feet of ground-floor commercial uses when completed.

LOHA is designing the Isla project, which is composed of prefabricated  modular units arranged create terrace decks for residents. Athens Way, a short road which flanks the western perimeter of the site, is intended to be converted into a "shared street" called the Annenberg Paseo. The corridor, where pedestrians, motorists, and cyclists will share the same right-of-way, is being named for the Annenberg Foundation, which provided funding for the project.

At a cost of more than $22-million, the apartment complex is expected to cater to formerly unhoused residents earning between 30 and 40 percent of the area median income, according to a staff report by the Housing and Community Investment Department.
