HED has unveiled the design of a new athletic complex coming to the East Los Angeles Community College campus in Monterey Park.
The Kinesiology, Wellness, and Athletic Complex (KWAC), which will be delivered by a design-build team that also includes McCarthy Building Companies, is planned to anchor a new student wellness village on the west side of campus. The 110,000-square-foot building is slated to replace a parking lot at the intersection of Avenida Cesar Chavez and Bleakwood Avenue.
"We are not just building a structure on campus, but enhancing the overall campus experience by promoting wellness and health. The project’s goals to ‘be a center focused on health and wellness that connects the larger ELAC community to the surrounding neighborhood’ are compelling principles which will create an identity for this collegiate level facility," said HED's Brent Miller.
Completion of the new KWAC is expected in 2029.
East L.A. College's most recent expansion prior to this was a $55-million humanities building, which sits near the center of campus.
