In Koreatown, another mixed-use apartment building is starting to sprout near the intersection of James M. Wood Boulevard and Vermont Avenue.
The project, located at 905-909 S. Vermont Avenue, will eventually consist of a seven-story edifice containing 67 apartments above ground-floor commercial space and a subterranean parking garage.
EGC Real Estate Group's is building the apartment complex in accordance with the Transit Oriented Communities guidelines, which allows larger buildings than permitted by zoning if a certain number of units are set aside as deed-restricted affordable housing.
A landing page on the company's website names the project Verwood, a portmanteau of its nearby cross streets. Renderings of the completed building, designed by 64North, depict a contemporary podium-type building with cantilevered balconies lined with lush greenery.
Construction of Verwood comes on the heels of the completion of a larger mixed-use development across the street. At the southeast corner of Vermont and James M. Wood, developer Jamison Services, Inc. has built a 193-unit apartment complex with ground-floor retail space.
EGC Real Estate Group, based in Hidden Hills, recently broke ground on another project on a neighboring site to the west of Verwood. That eight-story, 63-unit condo complex is slated to open in 2023.
