More multifamily housing will soon rise next-door to the Robert F. Kennedy Community Schools complex in Koreatown.
Local developer Jamison Services, Inc. has broken ground on a new apartment complex at 689 S. Catalina Street, a representative of the developer confirms. The project, which was issued buildings permits by the City of Los Angeles in 2019, calls for the construction of an eight-story edifice featuring 61studio, one- and two-bedroom dwellings above 490 square feet of ground-floor commercial space and parking for 92 vehicles.
DFH Architects is designing 689 Catalina, which is described as having a modern look featuring large glass windows layered between crisp horizontal bands. Architectural plans indicate that the building would feature exterior finishes including concrete, stucco, and metal, and will also incorporate on-site amenities such as a rooftop deck, a business center, a gym, and a club room.
Completion of the apartment complex is anticipated in early 2023, according to a landing page from the Jamison Services website.
The apartment complex, located on a site previously used for parking, is rising immediately south of The Crosby, another multifamily development which Jamison Services completed in 2020. That project included the adaptive reuse of a 12-story Welton Becket-designed building at Catalina's intersection with Wilshire Boulevard – once the West Coast headquarters of Texaco - as well as 120 apartments built atop an adjoining parking garage.
Besides its developments on Catalina Avenue, Jamison has more than a dozen other multifamily residential projects either planned or under construction between Koreatown and Downtown Los Angeles.
