The Los Angeles County Regional Park and Open Space District has announced its largest ever competitive grant program for applicants interested in building new green spaces or upgrading existing parks.

The 2025 grant program, which will have $58 million in total funding available, will provide money toward projects considered to be shovel-ready. At least 30 percent of funds are to be reserved for communities identified as having either high or very high park need in the 2016 Countywide Parks Needs Assessment.

“This is more than a grant program—it’s a commitment to creating parks and open space in the communities that need them most,” said Los Angeles County Parks Director Norma Garcia-Gonzalez in a news release. “This $58 million investment has the power to deliver on the promises made to voters—transforming neglected spaces into vibrant parks, trails, and green infrastructure that will serve generations to come. We envision a Los Angeles County where every neighborhood has access, and where children and families can easily access a park, trail, or open space they can call their own.”

The 2025 program will include $18 million for projects requiring planning and design services, with money to be awarded in amounts ranging from $100,000 to $500,000. Additionally, $24 million will be awarded to projects that enhance water quality, habitat, and open space, with awards ranging from $500,000 to $4 million. Finally, $16 million will go toward projects which improve upon the County's parks and trail system, with awards ranging from $500,000 to $4 million.

Over the past two years, the Regional Park and Open Space District has awarded $45 million in funding for similar projects. In the past year, it has helped support the acquisition of 623 acres of park land in Los Angeles County.
