The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has voted to move ahead with applications for approximately $155 million in state funding for the acquisition and development of affordable housing across the region.
The five projects, which will account for a combined 596 homes, would seek Homekey+ money created through the passage of Proposition 1 in 2024, which included $2 billion in bond funding for such developments statewide. To date, a total of $523 million in funding has been awarded through the Homekey program to Los Angeles County and its private sector partners, accounting for 2,053 units of permanent supportive and interim housing. The County is eligible for an additional $599 million in funding through the program.
The five projects include:
St. Vincent Behavior Health Behavioral Campus
A joint project with The People Concern which will convert an eight-story medical office building at 201 S. Alvarado Street into 172 homes. Up to $60.6 million is being sought for the adaptive reuse of the property, which is a part of the shuttered St. Vincent Medical Center campus in Westlake.
3525 Torrance Boulevard
The conversion of an existing hotel in Torrance by the Weingart Center into 120 units of housing. A maximum over just over $55.1 million is being sought for the project.
4752 S. Main Street
PATH Ventures would use up to $24.3 million in state funding to acquire a newly built affordable housing in South Los Angeles. Located at 47th Place and Main Street, the project was developed by Eleos.
Residency at the Entrepreneur
The County will seek up to $15 million to the acquisition of a new-build affordable housing complex located at 1657 N. Western Avenue in Hollywood. The nine-story development from ABS Properties includes 200 apartments.
5350 S. Huntington Drive
The County will also provide $5.2 million in funding to National CORE for the conversion of a motel at 5350 S. Huntington Drive in the City of Los Angeles into permanent supportive housing. The property will include 53 residential units.
