The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has approved the construction of a new pedestrian bridge over La Cienega Boulevard, the final link in a planned 13-mile hiking trail that will link Baldwin Hills to the Pacific Ocean.

According to a press release from the office of Second District Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, the new bridge will link the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook and Stoneview Nature Center with the nearby Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area.  The full Park to Playa project, which is set for completion in 2020, also includes the construction of new trails, landscaping, security fencing, and wayfinding signage.

“What we are doing here is trailblazing,” said Ridley-Thomas. “With the Park to Playa trail, South Los Angeles residents finally have a direct route for walking, running or biking through the Baldwin Hills all the way to the beach. It will be good for their minds, bodies, and souls.”

The project builds upon an existing network of trails and open spaces, beginning at Stocker Street to the west of Crenshaw Boulevard, then proceeding west through Baldwin Hills to Ballona Creek and the Ballona Wetlands.  From there it connects with the Marvin Braude bicycle path, which terminates at the beach in Playa del Rey.

The project travels through multiple jurisdictions, including Culver City, Los Angeles, and State Parks property.
