Although some beaches and public recreation areas are already slated to reopen, Los Angeles County's stay-at-home order will likely remain in place through July to limit the spread of COVID-19.
The current order, previously scheduled to expire on May 15, will be extended for three months, said Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer during a meeting of the County Board of Supervisors.
The Los Angeles Times reports that the remarks were made during discussion of an extension of the County's COVID-19 eviction moratorium.
The move comes as COVID-19 deaths continue to mount in Los Angeles County. To date, there have been 1,520 deaths attributed to coronavirus in the County - accounting for more than half of the statewide total.
Despite the continued spread of the virus, other Southern California jurisdictions have pulled back certain restrictions, including Riverside and Orange Counties.
