Commuters through Downtown Los Angeles will have undoubtedly noticed a new tower crane dotting the horizon, as Trammell Crow Company proceeds with construction on the La Plaza Cultura Village in El Pueblo.
The project, rising on two L.A. County-owned properties at the intersection of Broadway and Cesar E Chavez Avenue, will consist of five- and eight-story buildings featuring 355 residential units, 43,000 square feet of ground-floor commercial space and amenities such as a swimming pool and multiple rooftop decks. The apartments will come in an array of live/work arrangements, studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom floor plans, with 20% of the units set aside as affordable housing.
Designed by Johnson Fain, the project will extend an existing paseo that starts at Union Station to the Fort Moore Memorial on Hill Street. A large California sycamore will feature prominently within the development, a reference to the El Aliso sycamore that once stood nearby.
Representatives of Trammell Crow Company have previously stated the the La Plaza Village is scheduled for completion in mid-2018.
