43rd District Assemblymember Laura Friedman has announced $20 million in state funding towards the completion of the Glendale Narrows Riverwalk, as part of a bond measure which could go before California voters in 2018.
The third and final phase of the project would connect the existing Riverwalk - which spans from Bette Davis Park to the 134 Freeway - to the Griffith Park and the L.A. River bike trail through the construction of a new bicycle and pedestrian bridge.
Although an exact location for the bridge has not been selected, architecture firm T.Y. Lin International Group created multiple design concepts for the project. One proposal would consist of a meandering concrete span, featuring seating areas with shade structures and landscaping.
Completion of the bridge would be contingent on the approval of the bond measure by a majority of California voters.
Additional bridges are planned south along the river, with connections to Atwater Village and the Taylor Yard park.
