The California Transportation Commission has announced more than $2.7 billion in new funding for transportation projects large and small across the state, ranging from highway projects with nine-figure budgets to modest road repair initiatives with price tags under $1 million.

Los Angeles is far from the top of the heap in terms of regions securing funding, although neighboring Orange County will secure more than $140 million for various highway expansion and repair projects. By comparison, District 7, which represents both Los Angeles and Ventura Counties, will see roughly $40 million in total funding. Projects include:

  • $2.45 million for infrastructure improvements, landscaping and safety upgrades to Metro transit stops in time for the 2028 Summer Olympics.
  • $26.9 million for improvements near the Port of Long beach including upgraded pavement, ramp modification, roadway enhancements, and other technology upgrades.
  • $1.2 million for continued repairs to damaged slopes, replacement of retaining walls and guardrails, and placement of erosion control in areas impacted by the 2025 Palisades Fire.

Lastly, the Commission awarded $9.4 million for a makeover of the 4.5-mile Valley Bouelvard corridor between Union Station and the I-710 Freeway terminus. Project elements will include:

  • protected bike lanes with landscaped medians;
  • peak-hour bus-only lanes;
  • nine miles of new sidewalks;
  • 800 pedestrian and street lights;
  • 1,800 new trees;
  • three acres of new landscaping; and
  • a two-acre extension of Lincoln Park which will connect with Parque de Mexico.

The project has previously received a $9 million allocation from other state programs, and is tapping into local funding once intended for the never-built 710 Freeway extension.

Valley Boulevard is one of three corridors in the near vicinity that will benefit from funding once intended for the 710 extension. Similar enhancements with bus and bike lanes are envisioned for four-mile stretch of Huntington Drive, while new bike lanes, landscaping, and pedestrian infrastructure are planned for Eastern Avenue.
