A $10.1-million grant from Amazon founder Jeff Bezos' Bezos Earth Fund will go toward the revamp and expansion of the Watts Towers Arts Center campus.

The grant, which was secured in partnership with the Los Angeles Neighborhood Land Trust, completes $22 million in funding required for the project. Plans call for the addition of 30,000 square feet of new park space to the campus.

“This is about investing in the people of Watts and creating a space the community can be proud of,” said Mayor Karen Bass in a news release. “This announcement marks a major milestone for a project years in the making. Thanks to the dedication of our state, county and local partners, philanthropic supporters and community organizations, we’re one step closer to creating a greener, healthier and more vibrant campus that honors the legacy of Watts while serving generations of Angelenos to come.”

In addition to an eastward expansion of the campus along a former railroad spur, plans call for new walking paths, seating areas, art features, lighting, drinking fountains, bike racks, and other site improvements.
