A large, empty lot located south of Lakewood City Hall is set to be converted into a public plaza, according to a new environmental study.
The plaza, which will be located at 4900 Clark Avenue, is imagined as a 4.3-acre space including a playground, a performance area, landscaping, surface parking, and restrooms. City officials expect the new plaza would be used for community events such as farmers markets, as well as for other events currently hosted elsewhere including a 4th of July Block Part, concerts, and a Christmas tree lighting. Parking for an unspecified number of vehicles would be provided in a surface lot at the northern side of the space.
Dahlin and Nuvis Landscape Architecture are designing the project, according to plans included with the study.
The plaza is expected to include a theme marquee sign, as well as digital signage replacing an existing mid-century monument sign . Public art is also intended to be installed within the project area.
Pending approvals, construction of the plaza would commence in late 2026 and be completed in approximately nine months.
