Following months of rumors, the International Olympic Committee's executive board has endorsed a plan that would simultaneously award the 2024 Summer Games to Paris and the 2028 Summer Games to Los Angeles.
The move, which must still be approved by membership in July, is seen as a reaction to backlash against to the skyrocketing costs associated within hosting the games, as well as the urban blight that often results afterwards.
Los Angeles' Olympic bid has focused extensively on using existing and planned facilities throughout the region, such as the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and the new Inglewood stadium.
City officials have pushed for additional concessions from the IOC in exchange for foregoing the 2024 bid.
