From an inbound flight in late July, photographer Timothy Swope captured progress at the new Inglewood Stadium - soon to be both the Rams and the Chargers.

Scheduled for completion in 2020, the 70,000-seat stadium is the centerpiece of a 260-care mixed-use development which encompasses the former site of the Hollywood Park racetrack.  The total project, which has seen its budget swell to approximately $5 billion, will also include up to 3,000 residential units, a 300-room hotel, 400,000 square feet of retail, a 25-acre park, and a 200,000-square-foot facility that will serve as the new home of the NFL Network, NFL.com, the NFL app, and NFL RedZone.

HKS Architects is designing the stadium, while the surrounding mixed-use complex is being developed by Wilson Meaney and Stockbridge Capital.

The new stadium district will serve a key role in the 2028 Summer Olympics, and is also expected to host the Super Bowl in 2021.

The development - as well as a proposed arena for the Los Angeles Clippers - have prompted the City of Inglewood to consider constructing an automated people mover system which would connect with a new Metro Rail station under construction on Florence Avenue.
