In Exposition Park, landscaping and greenery are starting to flesh out at the site of the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art.

The more than $1-billion structure, a legacy project for Star Wars and Indiana Jones creator George Lucas, will serve as the permanent home of the legendary filmmaker's 100,000-piece art collection, which includes which includes paintings, sculptures, murals, photographs, comics, magazine illustrations, and film.

MAD Architects, is designing the 300,000-square-foot museum, while Stantec is serving as executive architect. The exterior of the five-story building is clad in 1,500 glass fiber reinforced polymer panels, while its rooftop is adorned with greenery and solar panels.

At the southern end of the 11-acre site, gardens designed by Studio-MLA will create new entry points to the park, as well as community amenities such as an amphitheater, a hanging garden, and a pedestrian bridge. The space serves as an extension of Exposition Park.

Under construction since 2018, the exact moment when visitors will be able to experience the Lucas Museum remains up in the air. A representative of the Lucas Museum confirms that the museum is now expected to be completed in 2026 - approximately five years after originally planned.

The Lucas Museum is one of two large construction projects now reshaping Exposition Park, joining the  $400-million Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center now underway next to the California Science Center. Exposition Park officials have also announced plans for a $352-million addition of new green space along Figueroa Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard prior to the 2028 Summer Olympics.
