A more than two-mile stretch of Western Avenue is poised for a makeover by the City of Rancho Palos Verdes.

The Western Avenue Beautification project, which will require coordination with both the City of Los Angeles and Caltrans, would span from Peninsula Verde Drive to the north and Summerland Street to the south. Proposed improvements include both new landscaping and hardscape elements in medians and parkways, as well as the installation of new bus shelters and street furniture.

According to a city presentation, the project will incorporate native trees and plantings along the two-mile corridor, as well as decorative paving on sidewalks and in intersections.

Nuvis Landscape Architecture is designing the project, according to the city presentation.

The project corridor abuts the Ponte Vista housing development in the City of Los Angeles to its west, which is bringing 670 homes to a former military site in San Pedro.
