Seven months after the fires, the City of Malibu is moving forward with plans to develop a performing arts center.

The project, a component of the Malibu Community Lands Project, is slated for Parcel C at Cross Creek Ranch property - located at the northernmost portion of the mixed-use complex at 23465 Civic Center Way Malibu.

“While we’re excited to advance into this next phase of planning and community engagement, we recognize that any development efforts will progress gradually,” said Mayor Marianne Riggins. “The City remains focused on community wide recovery and rebuilding in the aftermath of the recent fires, and that will continue to influence the pace of any projects on our community lands.”

Conceptual plans developed by Marmol Radziner and presented earlier this year to city officials call for the construction of gallery spaces, a sculpture park, an artist residency space, and two theaters with seating for 100 and 300 spectators.

A community workshop to solicit feedback on the plan is to be held on Wednesday, July 30 at 6:00 PM at Malibu City Hall and via Zoom.

The community lands project, launched in 2024, aims to shape the future use of five different parcels of city-owned properties totaling 61 acres of land.
