L.A. County's Department of Beaches and Harbors is working on a revamp of Burton Chace Park, according to a presentation to the Marina del Rey Design Control Board.

The 10-acre waterfront park, located at the end of Mindanao Way, features a community room, pedestrian paths, and outdoor gathering spaces.  Proposed improvements include:

  • a new design for the entry plaza with decorative pavers, seat wall nooks, and a water jet lay fountain centered on a sculpture;
  • replacement of existing shelters and tables of the existing picnic pavilion and the addition of a central great lawn with game nooks, picnic tables, and a bioswale;
  • new paving for the walkway around the park perimeter;
  • a 2,400-square-foot stage area with amphitheater-style seating for live performances at the southwest corner of the park;
  • remodel of the patio outside of the community room; and
  • a 2,400-square-foot play area along existing slopes at the northwest end of the park with rope ladders and other equipment.

A timeline for the improvement is not included in the staff presentation.

Other parks and open spaces in the Marina del Rey are include the redesigned Oxford Basin, a retention pond which was refurbished by the County in 2016 to add new landscaping, observation areas, and a walking path around its perimeter.

A wetlands park is also planned adjacent to a dual-branded Marriott hotel now under construction at Via Marina and Tahiti Way.
